Private Coaching

I offer private coaching for nerds who struggle with social skills

Many of my clients are successful professionals in fields like IT, accounting or engineering. Some of them have advanced degrees as well. They just haven’t put as much time into learning how to socialise as they have into their work and studies. So they feel lonely and isolated, and want to do something to change that.

Issues addressed in coaching include:

  • Getting stuck in your head
  • Not knowing what to say to sustain a conversation
  • Struggling to talk to members of the opposite sex
  • Not having any friends in real life
  • Feeling stuck at the level of small talk
  • Finding it hard to express needs and opinions

The aim is to take you from feeling socially awkward to being confident around other people, without pretending to be someone you’re not.

“Talking with Geoff is always enlightening. I admire his ability to create amazing friendships despite the challenges we all face. He has given me many valuable insights into how to do this (and what to avoid!)”

How does private coaching work?

When you sign up for coaching, you’ll get one 60-minute virtual coaching call per week.

These sessions are client-led, which means:

  • You get to decide what we talk about
  • You get to bring problems to me and we’ll solve them together
  • You’ll define what success looks like to you and we’ll make a plan together to get you there

Between coaching calls, I’ll assign you homework. This normally involves researching or practising a new skill.

Private coaching sessions are designed to be informal, affordable and flexible. The first call is always free. If you want a more comprehensive, longer-lasting coaching program, The Social Mastery System might be a better fit for you.

Here’s a summary of the differences between the two types of coaching I offer:

Disclaimer

Coaching is not therapy. I won’t ask you how your childhood was or get you to share trauma. The purpose of social skills coaching is to teach you structured mental models and habits that make socialising easier for you. It’s not my place to diagnose you with anything.

Who’s the coach?

I’m Geoff, and I’m both a coach and a nerd.

Growing up, I did well academically, but I didn’t have any friends. I can count the number of parties I went to on the fingers of one hand.

In 2010, I got tired of being lonely and decided to improve this area of my life.

Initially, I fell in with the wrong crowd and pretended to be charismatic. This worked superficially, but inside I knew I was a fake.

It took some deeper work, going to therapy and years of practice to really get to the root of my social issues. You can read my full story here

Years later, I now have a thriving social life. I enjoy going out and meeting new people. And I’m blessed to have a lot of good people around me.

I’m honoured to accompany other people on their journey to become more socially confident.

How much does it cost?

You can choose between paying per session or per batch of four sessions:

Payment is due in advance of coaching. You can pay in USD, GBP or EUR, the price is the same regardless. I’ll give you the account details at the end of the free intro call so that you can wire me the funds.

Unfortunately, I can’t accept insurance, since I don’t offer therapy or any sort of medical help.

However, it is possible to gift coaching sessions or sponsor a colleague to receive coaching. To learn more about how that works, please contact me.

Geoff consistently shows nothing but care and professionalism, creating engaging conversations and a comfortable experience.
